Every afternoon during the summer, the request “can we take a popsicle to the park to play?” is heard at our house. My kids love popsicles, but as a sugar-conscious mom, I tend to make “healthy” popsicles from scratch for them (like our Frozen Fruit Pops). However, I do like to surprise them once in a while with a special sweet treat, so when my toddler spotted some sour gummy worms in the checkout lane last week, I was inspired to create some Sweet and Sour Fizzy Pops.
With only two ingredients, these Sweet and Sour Fizzy Pops are so easy to make, and they taste really yummy, too. (I may have sampled one alongside the kids.) Grab your favorite popsicle mold and make a special sweet treat for your kids to enjoy this afternoon as they attempt to beat the summer heat!
- clear fizzy soda (I used 7-UP because it was on sale)
- sour gummy worms
Place a gummy worm in each of the popsicle molds.
Then add your fizzy soda to fill the mold leaving a small bit of room for expansion during freezing.
Place your popsicle sticks on the mold, and freeze.
When you eat the Sweet and Sour Fizzy Pops, the gummy worms will thaw to their original chewy consistency and make for a fun treat inside the popsicle.
My kids weren’t too sure when I first pulled the Sweet and Sour Fizzy Pops out the freezer, but it was only a matter of one lick before they were asking if they could have another. It was a great way to beat the summer heat with something a little bit sweet.
I can’t wait to experiment with other candy and soda combinations for future sweet popsicle recipes!
What are your kids’ favorite candies? Have you ever experimented with adding them to popsicles?
