Visit the Library
Though we spend a lot of time at the local library during the school year, summertime extends our love of the library. It’s in the summer that we lengthen our list of books to read and allow our library bag to overflow.
In fact, we had to upgrade our “library bag” to a “library tote” after last week – we needed more space!

Our local library hosts a reading challenge each summer, and we are quick to sign up. In the past two weeks, each of the kids has logged over 100 books, and I’ve managed to log a couple thousand pages.

Does your library host a summer reading challenge? What motivates you to read in the summer?
Read a Book
As you may have deduced from our love of the library, we love to read at our house. It’s rare to find a member of our family without a book {or Kindle} in hand or at least nearby.

Summertime provides us with lots of “extra” time to get cozy with a good book – whether inside in the air conditioner or outside on the porch or laying on a blanket in the yard.

Thanks to the extended hours of daylight, our reading often starts early in the morning and ends late into the night!

I love it when I walk into a room and find Jenny reading a book to David – it makes my mommy-heart smile!

Do you find yourself reading more or less during the summer?
Go Beyond the Book
Not only do we love to read books, but books are often the catalyst for learning activities that we do. After reading a book together, we love to go beyond the book and build memories around it.
Life as Mom has just released a new eBook called Fifty Books to Enjoy with Kids that is designed specifically to help you go beyond the book with your kids!
I was able to get my hands on a pre-release copy of this amazing new eBook, and I was excited to see some of my favorite children’s books included, as well as some new-to-me titles that I look forward to reading with Jenny and David.
