Studying the Book of Esther with GrapeVine Studies

We Love GrapeVine Studies

A few months ago, I was introduced to GrapeVine Studies and had the opportunity to review the GrapeVine Bible Study on the Life of Joseph. Jenny absolutely LOVED using the GrapeVine Studies method of stick-figuring her way through the Bible, and kept asking me when we would get the next book.

Jenny had recently fallen in love with the story of Esther through an easy reader she had gotten for her birthday, a Veggie Tales DVD we own, and Volume 7 from What’s in the Bible, so I was super excited to be able to share the Esther study from GrapeVine with her this past month!

Using GrapeVine Studies in Our Homeschool

We’ve chosen to use the eBook format of the GrapeVine Bible studies {they are also available as a physical book} in our homeschool.

When we reviewed Joseph, I printed out both the teacher and student books, but after talking with Amanda Pelser {my virtual twin sister – who is also using GrapeVine Studies in her homeschool}, I realized that I could use my iPad to reference the teacher’s guide and save on paper and toner!

Each morning {that we have school}, Jenny starts with handwriting and copywork. Since each lesson in the Esther study has a designated memory verse, I was able to incorporate the GVS into this daily exercise by having her write out the memory verse as part of her copywork.

Next, Jenny was eager to open the student book {which we printed out in its entirety} and get to work on the stick figure drawings. She would read {or I would occasionally read} the corresponding Scripture passages and use the teacher’s book on my iPad to determine what pictures she needed to draw on each page.

At the end of each lesson {which she was mostly able to do independently}, I used the teacher’s book to ask her questions about what she had learned in that lesson.

What Jenny Learned

Esther got to be queen because there was a queen that didn’t come when the king asked her to come.

Esther was in the garden talking to the king when she became queen.

Esther’s cousin was Mordecai.

Haman was a bad guy.

The king made Mordecai his new helper when he found out that Haman was bad.
