Small Acts of Faith

{Revisiting a post from the past…}

“He who is faithful in a very little thing is faithful also in very much;
and he who is unrighteous in a very little thing is unrighteous also in much.”
{Luke 16.10}

As I quickly glanced through my study of the Gospel of Luke on Monday, this verse jumped out at me.

My first thought was:

“Until I prove myself to be faithful with my current ministries, God won’t give me a bigger ministry.”

As I meditated on it, on what my current ministries entail, a practical example popped into my head:

My main ministry (in theory, not always in practicality), is to my family.

… read the rest: Be FAITHFUL in the small things

What small task do you need to be faithful to complete well today? What ministry has God called you to be faithful in?

    I love this, we just need to be faithful one step at a time in whatever God has called us to and he is faithful to bring us to the next thing he has for us!

      So true. This is something that I need to be constantly reminded of, though – I’m forever trying to get ahead of what God has for me in the moment.

    Yes, me too. When I can’t keep up with the housework but willingly go help my neighbor with hers, what does my family understand about my priorities? Ah, help my faith in action, Lord: my priorities set by you.

      Ooh… good point, Beth! Sometimes there is a call to sacrifice our own needs to help others, but I think I’m like you – too often willing to help a neighbor or friend and neglect my own family in doing so. Praying for balance and guidance as we seek to be faithful to that which God has called us.

    Like you, I’ve come to the realization my family and my home are my number one ministries.  I am called to nurture, care for, tend to and bless those living under my roof.  There are many other things the Lord asks of me, but this is priority number one.

      Thanks for stopping by, Stefanie! It’s difficult to stay focused on my family and my home as my number one ministry priority, but I know that’s where God has called me to be during this season of life. It’s so encouraging to have others walking through the same season to come alongside and support me!

    Ah, yes … the small things I so easily press to the side as ordinary or unimportant. I need the reminder. Here is where I am to be a blessing, and this is where I may practice demonstrating the grace and beauty of God’s presence. How much more difficult it is to love amid the daily aggravations and disrespect, but how essential it is to open myself to the moment by moment replacement of Christ’s nature in such things. And the promise … when sudden, dramatic, or overwhelming demands arise … that Christ will be sufficient there, also.

    well said. I think as moms, when we look at our “to-do” lists, we see things to do, and forget that there are people, (read souls) that we need to be ministering to as we work through our day. does my 2 12 yr old get on my nerves the unteenth time he sticks his hand in the flour i’m trying to make a pie crust with? yes… but boy, do I need to be reminded to be faithful with him, teaching him how to walk with the Lord, even in simple ways like, mommy asked you to do this, and by not, you’re disobeying, and the Lord doesn’t want us to disobey him, or the people he puts over us. It’s so easy to just say no and be done with it. encouraging words!

    Until I prove myself to be faithful with a smaller task, I will not be granted the opportunity to be faithful with a larger task. — I love this line! I’ll bear this in mind from now on.
    God bless! :-)
