living intentionally by faith everyday

Refresh and Refocus

If you’re friends with me on Twitter or follow the blog via Facebook, you probably noticed it was pretty quiet on both fronts this weekend.

Last week came to a crash on Wednesday afternoon – nothing major happened, but I had just reached a breaking point.

I tweeted: “I think I might just run away… #itsbeenoneofthosedays”.

Within minutes, I had tweets of encouragement and prayers coming my way. My community of friends on Twitter reached out and picked me up – they let me know I wasn’t alone. They reminded me that I was loved and treasured – by them and by God. They helped me to gain a fresh perspective on my day – encouraging me to give it all to God.

What a blessing!

Within the half hour, I was feeling better – refreshed and reenergized. But I knew that it was only temporary. I needed to spend some quality time with God and offline.

Thus, the absence of a post on Thursday, and my absence on social media over the weekend. (And today’s late post.)

I refused to turn on my computer at all on Thursday (iPad and iPhone only), and I continued that “offline” status until I had the kids down for naps this afternoon.

I spent most of Thursday morning soaking up God – reading an encouraging devotional guide/book and spending time laying it all down at His feet. Friday afternoon until this morning I spent time out of town with family.

And now, I’m backrefreshed and reenergized. Ready to share encouragement from the Word of God with you again. Ready to encourage you to live intentionally by faith everyday.

What about you? Have you found yourself at the end of your rope lately? How have you stepped back and refocused?

I totally understand! Starting the Bible in 90 Days plan in January has helped me realize that it is the perfect place to ‘run’ to when I am feeling overwhelmed. Praying we can both learn to recognize that need before it becomes so desperate :)

Yes. I hadn’t been spending as much time digging into the Word as I needed to be – just skimming instead of digging – and it was starting to show. Such a blessing to spend a few hours just meditating on the Scriptures!

I have more need than answers right now, Ashley. Sometimes I take a “mental health day” and go talk with a friend or counselor, maybe take a long walk if the weather is nice. Spending more time in the Bible & prayer is part of my PLAN for mental health days, but lately I have been having trouble focusing on either reading or prayer.
Anyway, good for you for unplugging for a few days!

I find that when I can’t focus, a run or walk helps. I often find myself talking out the issues with God while I’m out and alone. Praying for you, friend!

This totally happened to me this week! I only turned on my computer Monday and Tuesday to check email. I had no desire to look at anything else online. By Wednesday, I realized I just did need a few days offline. It’s so good to take a break (even if not exactly by choice).

I look forward to my weekly unplugging, and it was a nice break to be unplugged for the entire weekend! We all need a break from the computer! :)
