I don’t know about you, but I need direction and focus when I sit down to pray.
One of the best modes of prayer that I’ve found is praying God’s Word.
When I don’t have the words to pray, I can pray the Scriptures.
- When a friend is hurting, I can pray Zephaniah 3.17 over her.
- When I am anxious, I can pray Philippians 4.6.
- When I’m tempted to fear, I can pray 1 Timothy 1.7.
When I pray God’s Word, not only do I know that I am praying according to His will, but I am engraving His truths on my heart.

And I’m not the only one who has discovered this amazing truth…
“Praying God’s Word has been one of the most life-changing ways I’ve learned to live in the security of His promises… When we pray God’s words out loud, and hear them, the Holy Spirit engraves them on our hearts and write them in our thoughts. We internalize God’s truth as our faith grows and we are transformed from the inside out.” – Renee Swope {A Confident Heart}
“I love to take the Word and wash it over my boys in prayer, substituting their names in when I can and asking the Lord to bring it to fruition in their lives.” {Brooke McGlothlin, Warrior Prayers}
And so, when I want to pray for someone, I start with God’s Word. I look for Scriptures that are relevant to his/her situation, and I begin to pray God’s Word over him/her.
