Our {Mobile} Homeschool Classroom

Last month, many homeschooler shared photos of their homeschool classrooms.

We were too busy getting into our homeschool routine to stop and take pictures of our classroom – plus we were still trying to figure out what was going to work best for us in regards to location.

We’ve gotten into a good groove now, so I thought it might be time to share our homeschool classroom with you.

Our Mobile Homeschool Classroom

Our {Mobile} Homeschool Classroom

First thing to note – our homeschool classroom isn’t really a classroom. Most days, we end up at the dining room table once breakfast is cleaned up.

We’ve found that being able to all be in one central location with plenty of natural light and space to spread out works best for us.

The {Mobile} Homeschool Box

Since we don’t have a “school room,” we have a Homz storage box {can I just say how much I LOVE this storage system?!?} that houses our homeschool supplies – the supplies we use on a daily basis including our curriculum books.

Mobile Homeschool Box Contents

Contents:

2 Expo Learning Boards {I *highly* recommend these – we use them EVERY day}

Disney Princess Math Flashcards {I picked these up in the Target Dollar Spot}

Horizons Grade 2 Math Book 1

Jenny’s Journal

Grade 2 Workbooks

2 Flexi Rulers

Child Training Bible {read more about this amazing tool}

Pencils {can never have too many}

Playskool ABC Flashcards {I bought these at our local Dollar Tree}

Dry-erase Markers

Rubber eraser {because we tend to erase a lot}

Crayola DryErase Crayons

This box not only allows us to easily store our homeschool supplies at the end of each day {I have a large pantry in my office that houses all the kids’ games, puzzles, art supplies, extra school supplies, extra curriculum, and the mobile homeschool box} but allows us to take our homeschool with us if we are on the road that day.

I anticipate that we’ll need a second mobile homeschool box for David in the next few months as he begins to need more of his own supplies, so I have another box ready to go.

The {Mobile} Teacher’s Bag

It wasn’t long into our “mobile” homeschool classroom that I discovered I needed a mobile teacher’s bag.

Eventually, I was bringing so much “extra” stuff out of my office to the dining room, that I decided to designate this Thirty-One bag that I recently discovered hiding in my closet as my teacher’s bag.

Most of my blogging ideas come while we’re doing homeschool {you’ve got to live life in order to blog about it, right?!?}, so I started bringing a notebook out each morning to easily jot down ideas as they came.

Then, I realized that the time when Jenny was working independently on her copywork and Bible lessons was perfect for me to do some Bible study of my own {assuming David is also otherwise engaged}, so I decided I needed to have my Bible and journal and devotional book easily accessible.

And, of course, I need my iPad handy while doing school, since most of my teacher manuals are saved as PDFs in my Dropbox account.

As you can see, having a mobile homeschool classroom is what works well for us!

  1. When we started homeschooling, I put together a nice classroom and we used it for about a month and then ended up just starting our day at the dining room table, spreading out to the living room, math in bedrooms…and it kind of seemed more natural, PLUS I could get dishes done while the kids were working on something. I like the idea of a homeschool bag, though…

    1. Our dining room is “central” on our lower level, so it makes a perfect spot to set up school each morning. I can work in the kitchen {same room}, send David to the living room to watch a movie {just around a partial wall}, or work in my office down the hall. Laundry and a half-bath are also right there, which makes multi-tasking while the kids are working a breeze!

  2. I think this is a great idea, Ashley. We do a lot of schooling on the way to various activities, and the idea of having a bag I can grab quickly and go is awesome. Now the only challenge is keeping the toddler out of it. :)
