One Wintry Night by Ruth Graham Bell

One Wintry Night by Ruth Graham Bell

One of my biggest pet peeves about a traditional Christmas celebration is that Jesus gets left in the manger. In my opinion, the greatest gift of all is not a baby in a manager but that the baby grew up and shed His own blood on our behalf that we might be reconciled to God through Him. So I am absolutely in love with Ruth Graham Bell’s Christmas book, One Wintry Night, as it tells the Christmas story beginning with Creation and ending with the Resurrection!

About One Wintry Night {from the publisher}

A snowy night, a warm cabin, and a boy who hears the Christmas story told for the first time—beginning with Creation and ending with the Resurrection.

A classic Christmas picture book, One Wintry Night tells the story of a mountain boy who is injured in a snowstorm and seeks refuge in a cabin. While he waits out the storm, the woman who lives there tells him the Christmas story. In a magnificent blend of a contemporary setting with the history of God’s redeeming love, Ruth Graham created a wonderful and unique version of the Christmas story. Breathtakingly illustrated by renowned artist Richard Jesse Watson, One Wintry Night is the perfect gift for the young and the young-at-heart that will fascinate both those who have heard the Bible story many times and those who know only a few details.

    A beautiful nativity set painted by a dear friend of mine adorns a niche in my entry . Daily prayer with my daughter with a focus on bringing praise to Him during this season and asking for His peace. Honestly, I’ve been so busy this year I haven’t been focused on anything! Thank you for the gentle “reminder” that I can’t just assume that my child is seeing this as a holy season! Iron sharpens Iron .. I will step it up with advent scripture reading!! Thanks, friend!

    Hey Ashley,

    Happy to have noticed your blog. Thanks so much for the post about One Wintry Night. I do love the book for a lot of reasons. One big reason is that I was the illustrator for One Wintry Night. Many years ago Ruth Bell Graham called me and asked me to work on this book with her. It was an amazing journey. I’m delighted that Thomas Nelson has come out with this brand new version.

    This is great! We keep Christ in Christmas by celebrating the gift that God sent us, Jesus. I have taught my kid’s from the start to celebrate the gift and what Jesus has done for us on Christmas.
