Old Testament Basics with GrapeVine Studies

Old Testament Basics

The past month or so, we’ve been working through GrapeVine Studies Old Testament Basics as part of Jenny’s daily work in our homeschool. We love GrapeVine Studies Old Testament Basics because it allows us to combine four different “subjects” into one!

Bible

All of the activities that Jenny does with GrapeVine Studies Old Testament Basics are based in the Bible. She is not only completing her other subjects, but she is reviewing and learning basic truths about the Bible that are helping her to form a solid foundation of faith.

Writing

Jenny starts off each morning with her journal. She journals her name, the date, and the weather at the top of the page before diving into her Bible journaling for the day.

Using the Old Testament Basics teacher’s ebook from GrapeVine Studies, I write out 3-5 questions and answers.

I use my iPad to access the teacher’s ebook, and I write out the questions/answers onto some lined whiteboards that I picked up in the Dollar Spot at Target.

Jenny copies the questions and answers into her journal.  I have found that writing things out is a great way to help facts sink in.

Reading

Using our Child Training Bible, Jenny looks up the verses associated with each of the question/answer sets and reads them aloud.

This has been great practice for her not only in reading, but it’s also helped her to get more familiar with where things are in the Bible as she has to look up each of the verses.

Art

Once she’s completed her writing and reading, Jenny draws the corresponding stick figure picture to complete the set.

I’m pretty sure that the “art” aspect of this study is one of Jenny’s favorite parts about doing the GrapeVine Studies each day – she loves getting her markers out to draw!

Jenny looks forward to doing her GrapeVine Studies Old Testament Basics each day, and it makes my heart happy because I know she is learning truths about the Word of God that are helping her to grow her love and knowledge of Him!

Each lesson begins with asking a question about the Bible, reading Scripture, and then stick figuring the answer. All questions deal with biblical facts and not doctrine.
