My Week in Review {09.28.12}

In my life this week…

I’m sitting trying to remember what happened last weekend, and I’m drawing a blank. Six days is a long time to try and remember something, right?!?

It’s been a full week once again this week.

Monday, we did school, had our weekly trek to piano lessons and the library, and I got together with a few friends for coffee after the kids were all in bed.

Tuesday, I think we tried to do school again, but due to some attitude issues, not a whole lot of school work was accomplished {see the video at the end for more details}. Tuesday afternoon I worked and hosted the Homeschool Blogging Twitter Tuesday chat and then worked some more.

Tuesdays are my LONG work days – I tend to work from 1pm til 9pm with a short break to feed the kids supper and put them to bed.

Wednesday I woke up with a headache bordering on migraine status, so I stayed in bed til lunchtime while the kids watched a movie and played. No school was even attempted on Wednesday!

By the afternoon, I was feeling a bit better and managed to be able to get some work done before playing “chauffeur” for AWANA on Wednesday night {during which my blood sugar CRASHED, and I had to make an emergency run to the grocery store to refuel}.

Thursday was David’s 4th birthday, so we spent most of the day celebrating him. He got a couple of presents in the morning {ones he knew he was getting and had been told he couldn’t touch until his birthday}, and he spent the morning watching The Lorax {on DVD} and playing with his new Lightning McQueen racetrack. We took him out to lunch at Culvers and made our “weekly” trip to Menards in the afternoon.

I finished out the day with Worship Team practice and spent an hour standing in the church parking lot afterwards talking with my best friend.

It’d been awhile since we’d had a real conversation.

Friday, we made our weekly trek to Maria’s for breakfast as a family. Then we found out that J’s work truck was ready to be picked up {it’d been in the shop}, so we had to drive 30 minutes to the next town west of us to pick it up. I was feeling quite tired, so we made a McDonald’s drive-thru stop for a large coffee to help wake me up {it worked} since I’d have to drive the van back to town.

Tomorrow {Saturday}, my family will be driving down from Michigan and Chicago to help us celebrate David’s birthday. We’re looking forward to spending the afternoon together!

David’s party is “Lorax” themed, so I’ll be making Lorax cupcakes later tonight {Friday}.

In our homeschool this week…

We started a new Grapevine Study this week – Old Testament Basics. Jenny and I are both very excited about it and are really enjoying it so far.

I’ll be sharing more about it next month!

And that’s really about all we accomplished this week… it was a tough week in terms of attitude issues, so we had to put the academics aside and focus on character training. Be sure to watch the video below for more explanation.

I’m cooking…

Remember last week that I said I had a new meal plan that I was trying to stick to?? Well, I  haven’t made a single meal that was on it since Saturday {homemade chili & freshly baked bread}.

BUT, we also have only had take-out one night this week {I picked up Papa Johns for J and I on Wednesday night after AWANA}, so I don’t feel too bad.

Great pointer in your video! And it’s truly important to address those challenging attitudes…because it effects more than just school. My daughter had a terrible year last year…so terrible that we had gotten public school enrollment papers for this. I was determine to figure out what was going on as I felt it wasn’t SCHOOL, but just GENERAL misbehavior. I can’t say as I figure out the WHY or WHAT, but I spent more time with her over the summer, making a point to have regular one-on-one time, praising her for really trying or being helpful…and guess what? Totally different girl this year! Phew!

I definitely relate to the attitude issues.

You are so right! I have seen some of these issues in our homeschool lately too. Stopping and talking is one of the best things and such a special time between a parent and child. Thank you for sharing and reminding me to stop, take the time to talk and work on those heart issues ;)
