living intentionally by faith everyday

My Favorite “F” Words

Thanksgiving weekend this year was exactly what I needed it to be – it was full of my favorite “f” words from childhood… family, faith, friends, football, food, fellowship, and fun.

My Childhood Home

Too often, going “home” leaves me feeling distant and discontent. It’s been said that you can “never go home again,” and through the years I’ve found that to be too true. And yet, I’ve continued to have expectations of “going home” that would resemble the “home” I knew growing up.

This year, I finally set aside my expectations and determined to just “be home” – whatever that looked like. And no, it wasn’t perfect or “just like I remembered.” But it was so much more

Family: my sister and her husband, my parents, my mom’s family

FamilyFamily

Food: a bountiful feast followed by days of snacking, plus lots of eating out at favorite restaurants

Faith: my parents’ church – the one I grew up at

Friends: my sister’s best friend, my cousins

CousinsCousins

Fun: board games, card games, and movies

Football: my first trip to a Michigan football game and a trip down memory lane being in the stands once again (football was a HUGE part of my life growing up, and I really have missed it)

footballfootball

Fellowship: with my family and with fellow believers

Do you have a favorite “F” word from this holiday season?

I’ll have to go along with “family,” “faith” and “football,” we also enjoyed “fotographs!” (Yeah, I’m cheating…) My late sister’s daughters came to my mom’s for Thanksgiving dinner, and my brother was in from Colorado. Brent & I had been babysitting all the family photos from generations back, and thought it was time for our nieces to have the ones that pertained to them. So, we brought most of the pictures of my sis from babyhood throughout, and those from the girls’ early years. We wanted them to remember their parents loving them and taking them places. We all had some laughs and smiles over these. It was a way to include Sis even though she was not with us.

I love your inclusion of “fotographs”! What a great way to include your sister’s memory in your celebration. :-D

I realized last night that I forgot “farm,” though there are definitely pictures on this post from the farm. :)
