Hiding Gods Truths

Monday Musings {02.06.12}: On My Mind, 1 Corinthians 12.27, and 1000 Gifts

On My Mind…

My brain is a complete mess today. I think I had too much dairy over the weekend. {I’m allergic to it and can only handle small amounts at a time or my sinuses get really congested.}

So, rather than my attempting to put together an intellectual post on what I learned in church yesterday {like I’ve been sharing on Mondays}, I thought I’d write a post of random thoughts floating around my head.

#1 – I should have gone to Walmart yesterday.

I was planning to run out to Walmart after church yesterday because I’d heard that they were going to have a special deal on the Kindle Fire. My husband has been wanting one since they came out, and we had decided if the deal was true, I would buy it as an “early birthday present” for him. {His birthday is at the end of April.} But, when I looked at the local ad on my phone during church {yes, I’m one of those people}, it appeared that our local store wasn’t offering the deal {the Kindle Fire was $199 and then you could get a $50 gift card “free”}, so I decided to run to Aldi instead of Walmart for the few groceries I needed to grab.

This morning, I double-checked the ad online {using my desktop rather than my phone}, and sure enough, they were offering the deal. So after piano lessons, the kids and I headed to Walmart to try and get the Kindle Fire. They had sold out two hours earlier.

I should have gone yesterday.

#2 – Going to Walmart wasn’t a total bust.

I normally avoid Walmart like the plague, unless I have a specific item that I know I can get there at a better price than I can anywhere else in town {i.e. toiletries, electronics, etc.}. However, going to Walmart today ended up being a “pleasant” experience, even though they were sold out of the Kindle Fire.

As we walked down one of the main aisles, we passed a display of marked down K-Cups. We recently bought a Keurig, but hadn’t purchased any K-Cups because we hadn’t found them cheap enough. Well, Walmart had the Donut Shop blend {one of the brews we like} marked down to $10.98 a box {for 18}, so I quickly threw two boxes in the cart.

That find alone made the Walmart trip worthwhile. {We won’t mention that I got “lost” in the parking lot after checking out.}

#3 – Leftovers are my best friend.

Last night we hosted a “Super Bowl Party” at our house. The best part? I didn’t have to cook, AND our friends gave us some of the leftovers at the end of the night. So my lunch today consists of leftover BBQ Wings {Tyson Any’tizers} that were put in our fridge at the end of the night.

I love easy lunches! {And, yes, I’m eating lunch at 4pm.}

#4 – Having people over makes my heart happy.

Last night, as I was getting the food around in the kitchen/dining room, I felt overjoyed at the fact that we had “crammed” 14 people into our living room to watch the Super Bowl together. {Our living “normally” seats 4-5 people.} It was such a fun time, even though we were sitting two rows deep and had standing room only.

We love sharing our home with our friends!

#5 – I’m looking forward to Wednesday.

Last month, I found out about a free “Miraculous Moments for Moms” program that takes place twice a month at the church that is literally next door to our subdivision. This Wednesday is another 3M morning {two and a half child-less hours}. I spent the better part of the time at the library working on my second eBook last time, and I’m looking forward to doing the same this week!

Free childcare is a blessing!

#6 – Shouldn’t a children’s librarian like children?

There is a librarian in the children’s department at our local library that I’m not sure should be a children’s librarian – she doesn’t seem to like children. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen her smile, and anytime my children interact with her, she always seemed annoyed or cross with having to interact with them. You’d think that since she works in the children’s department she would at least be able to tolerate interacting with children. Maybe we’ve just always caught her on a bad day.

I think a happy disposition should be a requirement!

And with that, I think I’m out… my brain is feeling much “emptier,” and I might even be able to get some more work accomplished this afternoon!

    Ah, a weekend of ups and downs! Ours was nearly all “ups” — our older son is home from Kuwait on R&R leave! He and his lovely wife came for a visit Sunday afternoon… and so did our younger son, and our DIL’s brother! It was a fun, chaotic time of rejoicing.

    “I avoid wal-mart like the plague…”  you do too! Awesome!

      haha… oh yes! however, since Target is a 45 minute drive, I do find myself darkening the doors of Walmart about once a month to restock on the essentials.

    Oh, how I love Wal-Mart stories. I get lost in every parking lot. Don’t feel bad. I never know where my car is, and then I can never remember which way to go to get out. Then, add crying baby because we all know what Wal-Mart does to children, and we have one really confused mama. :) Sorry you missed the Kindle. That’s a bummer…

      I’m not usually that bad w/ parking lots, but my head was a bit clouded. I’m usually pretty aware of which door I came in, so I was fairly surprised when I came out the other door!

    Great brain dump there ;0) And I really don’t like shopping at Walmart – we have masses and confusion any time of the day when we go! Makes me ill just thinking about it :D

      I think the worst part is the checkout experience… it’s rare that I make it out of the store without having been frustrated at the checkout lines {cashier, technology, kids, etc.}.

    Oh, I’m so sorry you didn’t get to take advantage of that Kindle Fire deal! We’re fortunate enough to have a variety of Walmarts around us and yes…I sent my husband to a total of 3 stores on Sunday afternoon (I would call ahead, they would say they have them, then they’d be out of stock by the time my husband would get there!) Finally a manager took pity on us and held one at another location. so thankful!

    and I love that you have friends who don’t mind being crammed in to enjoy the SuperBowl together! Those are the best kinds of friends :)

    Thanks for sharing your blessings!

      Haha… we’ve been calling our Walmart DAILY to see if they’re back in stock yet! They claim they’ll have some in tomorrow, so we’re hoping to be able to grab one then!!

    Thank you for linking up to Thankful Thursday!

    I avoid Wal Mart, too.  I also LOVE leftovers after parties!  As for that children’s librarian (I am an assistant children’s librarian) I find sometimes that seems to be the norm…unfortunately I think even with the women I work with, they tend to get jaded by the kids that don’t behave well and some of the rules they create seem really just mean and pointless to me, like they are seeking revenge on kids or something.  Yes, I had a bad week at work.  UGH.

    Anyway, I, too am thankful for a houseful of friends when it happens.  I still have yet to do my taxes–so glad I am not the only one who does them myself – I actually ENJOY doing them!!  I love seeing how it all works out.
