The war is over and while some loved ones are returning home, others aren’t, and nothing is quite the same in Rosey Corner, KY. The Merritt sisters are not exempt from the changes that war has brought as they continue their stories in Love Comes Home from Ann H. Gabhart.
From the Publisher:
When the flush of victory fades, there remains a winding road to an uncertain future.
World War II is finally over and the people of Rosey Corner are joyfully welcoming the boys home. The Merritt sisters in particular are looking toward the future. Kate is eager to start a family and live out her dream of happily ever after with Jay. Evangeline craves a beautiful house and encourages Mike to pastor a big-town church. Victoria wants what can never be. And Lorena is growing up and wondering more and more about her birth family.
Each sister must learn to hold her plans with a loose hand, trusting that God will guide and strengthen them as they share the joys and sorrows of life in their little corner of the world.
Sometimes when a book has too many “main characters,” the reader can find herself lost as to the main plot and confused as to whose story to which she should pay most attention. Love Comes Home, however, was a well-blended multi-character story with a healthy balance of sub-plots making it easy to follow and connect with each character as he/she told his/her version of the story.
I enjoyed continuing Jay and Kate’s story of love, I struggled to remember Victoria’s story (was not as prevalent in past books), I cheered for Lorena as she blossomed into a beautiful young lady, and I rolled my eyes at Evangeline’s self-focused view of life.
Ann H. Gabhart has written a beautiful story of life in a small town in rural Kentucky in the post-WWII era. The characters are believable and relatable. The story pulled me in and kept me turning pages.
I give Love Comes Home four stars.
