It’s been awhile since I’ve been able to sit and share my everyday life with you, so I thought I would share 10 random facts about life at the Pichea house today…
Life at the Pichea House: Take Ten

Fact #1: I am pregnant
If you didn’t already know it, I’m pregnant.
This has played a HUGE factor in my ability to blog about everyday life over the past four months or so.
We found out that I was expecting at the end of September, and by mid-October my energy levels had bottomed-out. We lived in “survival mode” most of the fall, as I could hardly get off the couch most days.
Thankfully, Jenny and David were amazing helpers and managed to take care of themselves (with limited supervision from me), and J was an amazing help in keeping up with the housework and bringing me home take-out!
I started feeling “better” around Christmas, and I have been slowly reclaiming my day-to-day activities and responsibilities.
Fact #2: David had a birthday in September
“Mr. D.” turned four at the end of September, and we began working on being more intentional about helping him transition from “baby” to “big boy.”

He is very much a “Momma’s Boy,” and we are working to help him cope with the fact that he will have to start sharing Mommy with a baby soon.
Fact #3: David started preschool
Although we did some preschool work with David in the fall before I crashed onto the couch, we didn’t have a plan in place or a curriculum we were following. We basically “did school” when he felt like it.
Just before Christmas, I had both kids do Truth in the Tinsel for Advent, and David really got into “doing school” on a daily basis. He started asking to “do school” as soon as he would wake up each morning, so I decided that we would start a more structured “school time” for him in January.
He is LOVING his “school” and asks to do it even on the weekends!
Fact #4: Jenny is in first-second-fourth grade
Part of being a homeschooler is the ability to move through various subjects at each student’s pace. And Jenny has been RACING through most of her subjects, putting her into grades far beyond her age.
Technically, she should have been a Kindergartner this year. We “say” that she is in “first grade” for social purposes (church activities and such), she is more than halfway done with second grade math, she is writing at a second grade level, and she is reading at a fourth grade (or higher) level.
Needless to say, she gets a little confused when someone asks her what grade she is in!
Fact #5: Jenny had a birthday in January
Our “Little Girlie” turned six at the beginning of this month, and she is very much a six-year-old girl!

Her favorite “toys” are her Barbies (she got all of my old Barbies for Christmas, plus a number of new ones and a Barbie house). She LOVES to read (she reads for hours a day, much like I did at her age), and she is beginning to read more chapter books and fewer easy readers (though she still prefers books with some pictures).
She is a great helper around the house, and I’m thankful to have an extra set of hands to help out when I’m feeling cruddy!
Fact #6: J and I are headed to Florida
Last year, we took the whole family to Florida for a vacation in the middle of the winter.
This year, just J and I are going.
The kids are headed to a family friend’s house, while J and I are headed to Captiva Island to attend the BEECH Retreat this week/weekend.
We’re looking forward to the warmth of the Florida sunshine and a nice time away without the kids.
Fact #7: I’m speaking
When I sat down to determine what I wanted to “be when I grew up” five years ago, I determined that I wanted to write and speak. At the time, I was focused on teaching Bible studies and such, but God has since opened the door for me to become a “speaker” on social media topics.
In March, I’m scheduled to speak at the Warsaw Women’s Expo on using social media in your everyday life.
In April, I’m scheduled to speak at the Titus 2:1 Conference on blogging as a business.
I am humbled and honored to be asked to speak at each of these events this spring, and I look forward to seeing how God uses these experiences to grow me as a writer and speaker!
Fact #8: My crockpot has become my best friend
So much so, that J “bought” me a second crockpot earlier this month!
I’ve been thoroughly enjoying coming up with combinations of ingredients to throw together in the crockpot for an easy and healthy meal for dinner.
Be sure to check out some of my recent crockpot recipe creations!
Fact #9: I get easily addicted to TV shows
To help pass the LONG days of laying on the couch and the long nights of insomnia, I have found “new to me” TV shows to become addicted to.
This fall, I re-watched all of Grey’s Anatomy (I’d originally watched it start-to-“finish” last spring).
This winter, I’ve gotten addicted to Friday Night Lights.
I also DVR several current TV shows each week to watch when I have “down time” – Nashville, The Good Wife, and Downton Abbey are a few of my “must watch” TV shows.
Fact #10: We’re having a BOY!!
We were able to determine via an ultrasound two weeks ago that the little life inside of me is in fact a BOY.

We are eager to meet Christopher James this spring!!
