Jesus is the Good News!

My kids are big fans of What’s in the Bible? DVDs (I think we own all but one volume), and when we heard that Volume 10, Jesus is the Good News!, was going to be released just in time for Easter, we were super excited to get our hands on a copy!

Jesus is the Good News!

I love this statement from Phil Vischer on the What’s in the Bible? blog:

“I hope families take away from this DVD a new understanding of what Jesus did and why it matters,” Vischer said about his new DVD on the Gospels. He points out that we hear the story of Jesus a lot – at Christmas, at Easter, and seemingly every Sunday in between. But when we hear the story of Jesus dying for our sins, we need to make sure we’re hearing the why. {emphasis mine}

And that is why I love What’s in the Bible? Volume 10… because it doesn’t just tell my kids the story of Jesus again, but it explains why Jesus had to die on the cross for our sins. It’s not just another “feel good” message aimed at kids, but it takes the kids deeper behind the truths of the gospel – teaching them not only that Jesus is the Good News, but why He is the Good News!

If you ask my kids…

If you asked my kids why they love What’s in the Bible? DVDs so much (and they’ll be quick to tell you that they do!), they’ll probably tell you they like the puppets and the songs and the coloring pages that I print off to go along with the DVDs.

They don’t realize that this entertaining DVD is teaching them deeper truths about who Jesus is and why it matters to them. And yet, they’re learning!

They know that…

The word Gospel means “Good News,” and it’s important to understand both parts of that phrase. We so often hear the news – what Jesus did, on the Cross, and how he rose again. But why is it GOOD news? It is Good News because when Jesus died to take the punishment for our sins, he opened the door for us all to enter the Kingdom of God – and we can be with God forever! {from the WITB blog}

So when they ask to watch another What’s in the Bible? DVD for the tenth time that week, I’m more than likely going to say, “Yes!”
