When you pick up a book on parenting and find yourself encouraged several times over before you even make it to chapter one, you know you have a winner. I Need Some Help Here! by Kathi Lipp is a winner.
From the Publisher:
For every overwhelmed mom–there is help and hope.
It’s easy to feel worried and anxious as a parent. There are so many areas of your child’s life that can go wrong along the way. What’s a mom to do?
With wit and wisdom, Kathi Lipp meets you in your moments of panic or despair and offers the most powerful tools you have–prayer and practical steps–for both your kid and yourself. She covers the stages of your child’s life from toddler to teenager and tackles the most common issues that cause you stress and anxiety, sharing
- practical wisdom when your child makes poor choices
- how to pray when your child is running away from God
- comforting words for when your child feels left out
- “been there, done that” advice for when your child is different than other kids
Whether you are at the end of your rope or simply need a little extra support as you walk the parenting road, you’ll cherish Kathi’s heart and her humor.
It’s been a long time since I’ve picked up a “help book” on parenting that I’ve liked, and even longer since finding one I love. I Need Some Help Here! from Kathi Lipp falls into the “love” category.
I didn’t even make it through the introduction before I found myself wanting to share quotes of encouragement about parenting:
“We take way too much credit when things go right with our kids and take way too much blame when they go wrong.” – Rob Teigen
“We must remember that the battle for our kids is God’s.”
“When we parent, especially when our kids are taking a different route than we expected, it also helps to remember how our heavenly Father parents us.”
“As much as you love your kids, they are God’s children, and the battle for their hearts, their minds, and their lives is his.”
If those quotes right there don’t encourage you, then don’t bother reading the rest of the book. But, if you’re like me, you’ll devour this book, marking it up with a highlighter, taking notes in the margins, and jotting down your favorite quotes of encouragement for the days when parenting is tough work.
This book will not only encourage you, but it gives helpful tips and how-tos for dealing with your kids and your reactions to their choices. It’s a must have for any parent with children of any age.
