Last week, I talked about how to pray for missionaries, and I decided to turn that one post into a mini-series here: “How to pray for…” So I want to take eight Thursdays to share some thoughts with you about “how to pray for” various people in your life. I won’t cover all the bases, but I hope provide you with a springboard for more ideas of “how to pray for” the people in your life!

Praying for your kids is one of the most important things you can do as a parent. I know this, and yet I struggle at times to know how to pray for them. When they’re sick, it’s easy to think to pray for their health. When they’re disobedient, it’s easy to remember to pray for obedient hearts. But when everything is going well, I often find myself forgetting to pray for them!
As a result of my forgetfulness, I have incorporated a prayer calendar (from Kat at Inspired to Action) into my daily devotional time that helps me to know how to pray for my children. Using Scripture to springboard my prayers, I use a calendar that lists the Scripture reference and a sample prayer for each day of the month. This allows me to spend time covering my children in prayer throughout the month, focusing each day on a different aspect of their character.
How do you pray for your children?
Edit: Jen shared a prayer pattern in the comments that she uses to pray for her son, and I wanted to share the link with you: Seven Prayers a Day (from Angie Smith).
