Join me in Finding Freedom this summer – freedom from perfection, control issues, and the tendency to listen to talking snakes {i.e. believe the lies of the devil}.
Each Thursday we’ll be looking at three chapters from I Blame Eve, discussing what God is teaching us through what we’ve read and looking for ways to apply our learning to our lives.
Chapter 22: I Am Not in Control
“When Jesus died on the cross, he gave us access to a relationship with God the Creator and a chance at a new way of living, a way of living in which we realign ourselves with God and let him be the one in control of our lives. Some of us assume that this yielding of control happens automatically upon recitation of the sinner’s prayer… But just like Eve had a choice (to bite or not to bite) in the garden, we have a choice every day in every situation that comes our way. Do we choose to play it safe, or do we hand over our lives to the living God?” {p. 155}
“When we place our lives in the hands of the Creator, we become more than we could ever dream to be on our own.” {p. 159}
Chapter 23: I Need a Paradigm Shift
“When Jesus decided to give his life for our sins and bridge the gap between us and the Father, he didn’t just right the wrong that happened in the garden… He invited us to be a part of his family. By adoption, we get to take on the family name. We get to know the Father in a way that only a kid can know his dad.” {p. 164}
“As God’s Spirit moves in us, a funny thing happens. We start to look like him. We speak like him and act like him. We laugh about the things that tickle him and weep over the things that break his heart. Not because of anything we have done but because God’s Spirit is in us.” {p. 164}
Chapter 24: I Am Ready for a New Out-of-Control Me
“Unbridled hope has to squelch the fear of the unknown to motivate us to action before we can ever be more than we are.” {p. 168}
“The lure of living free, with God’s Spirit given free rein in our hearts and minds, has to outweigh the fears of giving over control and of centering ourselves around his will instead of own own.” {p. 168}
“Letting go may not come intuitively, but as you practice putting yourself, your day, your will into God’s hands, it will begin to feel right… There is freedom when we let go of ourselves and hold fast to the Father.” {p. 170-171}
“Are you ready to brave your fears of letting go to see what magnificence may life in the future when God takes control of your life?” {p. 172}
