Cary Dairy Farm – a Field Trip

Going to visit the farm was always a favorite past-time of mine as a child. Growing up next door to the Cary Dairy Farm {my great-grandpa owned/operated it}, I had easy access to all the cats {what I was really interested in} and cows I could ever want!

Over Thanksgiving break, we joined part of my family in taking a “self-guided tour” of some of the Cary Dairy Farm’s newer facilities.

Jenny and David LOVED visiting the farm!!

Ooh… I see a tractor!!

David was enthralled with the bigger cows, and they didn’t seem to mind him, either!

Like mother, like daughter… Jenny liked the cows, but was WAY more interested in the cats!!

Moments before the fun began {doesn’t he look SO innocent?!?}…

And now, the story you’ve been waiting for…

Moments after the “innocent” picture of David was taken, “our four-legged friend” decided he didn’t like all the people {especially the little ones} around his pen. He jumped through the feeding window {like the one David is standing next to above} of his pen and took off into the nearby field. My uncle and I {both “seasoned” cow-herders… when you grew up next door to the farm, you’ve herded a cow or two in your lifetime} began to attempt to corral the calf back into its pen, but there were a few too many distractions and the calf decided it would rather roam the farm and nearby field. Ten minutes or so and five farm workers later, we successfully relocated the calf back into its pen and quickly vacated the calf pen area!

All in all, we had a great time visiting the farm, and I look forward to taking the kids back in a few years to check out the milking barn!

What fun! I’m so glad your kids get to experience animals up-close like that. (For the record, I have never in my life attempted to herd a calf anywhere.)

Nice camera work.  Nice picture of Aunt Judy and the kids.  Don’t forget to put them in a safe place.  It is such a heart ache when they get stollen and you forgot.
